Every workstation in our office has its own vibe. Some are as neat as display counters, covered with stacks of drawings and color swatches, while others feature family photos taped beside monitors. Starting this week, however, one new item has appeared on nearly every desk: a potted green plant.

This aligns with the Attention Restoration Theory in psychology. Glancing at natural elements, even a patch of green foliage, puts the brain in a mild relaxed state and eases fatigue caused by prolonged concentration. This is no superstition, but a proven physical response.
This is exactly why we launched the plan. Instead of leaving employees to cope with fatigue on their own, we take the initiative to create a tiny “breathing space”. Low in cost, these plants stay by our side all day long. Silent as they are, they bring instant relief the moment we look up.
II. A New Task Force: Turning Staff Ideas into Reality

III. Monday Morning Briefing: Tidy Up, Take Home a Green Companion
The plan was officially rolled out right after our Monday morning briefing.
Members of the committee announced the simple collection rules: tidy up your workstation first, then come to claim a plant. No complicated approval procedures or extra requirements — just spruce up your personal space and bring home a touch of green.
Everyone got down to tidying up. Some cleared away piles of waste paper, sorted scattered samples, or wiped down monitors and desks. Within minutes, the entire office looked much fresher, a perfect match for our new green companions.
We had a nice selection of common desktop plants to choose from: pothos, snake plants, areca palms and succulents. Queuing up gently, some hesitated over different succulents, some carried snake plants back like adopting little pets, and many chose resilient pothos for its easy care.
IV. Check-in Photos: A Sweet Ritual
After collecting the plants, we had a small group activity: take a photo with your plant and share it in the company chat group.
A few people thought it a bit troublesome at first, but the mood soon lightened. Some held plants beside their faces, others posed at nice angles, some took photos of their full workstations, and quite a few posed together with colleagues. The foreign trade industry runs on speed — quick replies, fast shipments and prompt problem-solving. Constant hustle often keeps us on edge. These plants act as gentle reminders: slow down a little, take a short break, and shift your gaze away from the screen for a few seconds.
This is far from sentimental. It is basic respect for every individual. Employees are not machines that can operate nonstop without wearing out. We may not do grand things, but we strive to create small comforts to ease work fatigue — and potted plants are one of them.
VI. Small Gestures That Never Go Unnoticed
This is not the first time our company has delivered such thoughtful little surprises.
We previously launched the Knowledge Sharing Program, where colleagues can exchange expertise and earn extra leave. We grant half-day holidays to parents on Children’s Day, and organize team-building activities like ancient costume short video shoots. Work performance is undoubtedly important, but a company focused only on results cannot retain talents. What truly makes people stay are those moments when they feel seen — when we notice your tired eyes, your need to spend time with family, and your desire for a little green comfort.
